The Global Practice of Work Force Diversity

Introduction

According to the (Hussain, 2021). Diversity is a significant component of organizational outcomes. Workplace diversity is a journey of discovery at the individual, group, and organization levels. Different people have different perspectives at each level to evaluate and analyze. Diversity is defined as the mixing of the equal and unequal minds of the individual. It is a part of everyday life in many countries in the developed world. Driven by a need to compensate for skill shortages and compete in more and more diverse markets - companies expand their recruitment and promotion efforts to teams. (Economic Intelligence Unit, 2009).

What is Workforce Diversity?

The diversity of the workforce is a collection of employees at different levels. It further explores the cultural similarities and differences between people’s cultural backgrounds, physical abilities and disabilities, race, religion, gender, and sexual orientation. And no two people are alike (Sexena, 2014).  According to (Indeed, 2022)  diversity in the workforce means the personality traits that make employees unique. These traits may include gender, race, ethnicity, religion, age, sexual orientation, physical ability, and ideology. Explain by the (Academy, T., & Journal, M, 2009) Diversity variables are classified as relationship-oriented diversity, such as race, ethnicity, gender, age, and function-oriented background, as well as functional background and institutional duration. The direct effect of diversity on performance is zero. Relationship-oriented diversity hurts team performance, while task-oriented diversity has a small impact on team performance.

As explained by (Seliverstova, 2021)  workforce definition of diversity management refers to the diversity management of its workforce, both visually (race, ethnicity, age, gender, physical abilities, etc.) and invisible (education, skills, and abilities, motivation, work experience, etc.). As workplace equality and differences.

Proposals to enhance workplace diversity include providing employee appreciation, training, and other personality development programs, and encouraging employees. Managing workplace diversity is important, and if left unmanaged it can lead to conflict, reduce organizational performance, and reduce organizational efficiency (Hussain, 2021).

The Global Practice of Workforce Diversity.

Figure 1 – The Nature of workforce diversity (Oyewunmi, 2018).

According to the (Emply A 15FIVE BRAND, 2020). Found some great examples of cultures to emulate. While there are plenty of companies that do diversity right, these really stand out for their focus on employee engagement.

1.      Alibaba Group-As the world's largest e-commerce company, the Alibaba Group hosts hundreds of millions of users and millions of merchants. In 2017, its online websites had a turnover of $ 248 billion, more than eBay and Amazon.com combined.

2.      Accenture - Accenture is a global consulting and professional services company with more than three-quarters partners in the Fortune Global 500 and serves clients in over 120 countries and over 40 industries.

3.      L’Oréal- Forbes Top Multinational Performer, a beauty company L'Oréal has a presence in 130 countries on five continents. It would be a serious understatement to say that respect for multicultural diversity is the essence of this company’s success.

4.      Lenovo - With over 57,000 employees in over 60 countries, the world's largest computer retailer has built its success on a strong foundation of diversity and inclusion. The company is 100 percent perfect on the corporate index for LGBTQ parity, not just in terms of numbers - but also in everyday use.

Companies like Coca-cola, Johnson & Johnson, MasterCard, Sodexo, and Novartis follow the diverse workforce very enthusiastically. Because the employees of the above companies represent different levels and different products in the production process, effective products are produced. It has also been pointed out that due to the diversity in the administrative processes of the institutions, it is possible to maintain the institutions in an orderly manner. (Socialtalent, 2020).

A Variety of Perspectives Since employees are representing different social levels and the company can look at the existing problems from different angles and get effective answers to those problems (Wonolo, 2018).

  1. It is obvious fact that with the growing globalization of today’s economy, achieving diversity in the workplace is a smart move to make, because it Connect to a Wider Range of Consumers and boost Greater Creativity and Innovation. A diverse workforce is more likely to understand customers' needs and come up with ideas to fulfill them. It will also increase employee morale and instill a desire to be more effective and work more efficiently resulting greater increase of productivity and Reduced Employee Turnover.
Most people think of a diversified workplace as a working environment that includes employees of different genders, ethnicity, and racial backgrounds. While this is true, there’s more to it than this. The meaning of diversity has become more complex. A diversified workforce includes people with variety across a number of different categories, such as religion, culture, sexual orientation, language, educational backgrounds, skills and abilities. When varieties of individuals are worked together in the same room, possibility of getting different perspectives and opinions that can benefit your business is high. As with anything in life, creating a diverse workforce doesn’t come easy some challenges can be arise along the way, such as; Unfair Prejudices, Communication Barriers, Different Interpretations of Professional Etiquette.

  4. As correctly stated in your article increased diversity is needed to have more skilled labor force. This will lead to more innovative and creative e ideas which will ultimately lead to more profit for the organization. However HR should implement proper strategies to treat all the work force in equal way so that no party will feel demotivated.

  5. Workforce diversity includes the differences and similarities of the employees. Organizational performance is the extent to which the organizational objectives and goals are being achieved. Most business organizations fail because galvanizing a diverse workforce to work as a team has been ineffective in terms of policy, training, exposure, and approach to specific and overall goals.

  6. I think Leaders and managers in organizations Are primarily responsible for the success of diversity policies and need to be guaranteed the effectiveness of policies.

  7. The increasing globalization tends organizations to operate on the broader market, therefore people from diverse societies, views and experiences, nowadays are challenged to more interaction with each other regarding work and business activities (Önday, 2016). The paper presents the idea of the beneficial individuality of each team member that should be managed appropriately, especially in terms of an international company. Despite the opinion that effective diversity management has been employed as support of minorities and as a defense in opposition to discrimination (Shen, Chanda, D'Netto, & Monga, 2009) in recent years, the practice of diversity has become an integral aspect of organizational management.
